Krystal Resort Cancun Reveals Taxi Travel Scams

When traveling around the world, most of the people you encounter are going to be honest people, just trying to make a living and take care of their families. But there are always scam artists, looking to take your money, and the Krystal Resort Cancun Scam Prevention Team has tips for you to avoid being a victim.

The most common scam is the taxi driver who takes the long and unnecessary routes to increase your fare. This might have been difficult to avoid in the past, but with GPS and maps on your phone you can negotiate the route before you start the trip.

Another trick drivers will use is to tell your hotel or attraction of choice is closed, and offers to take you somewhere else. They will get a commission on where they take you, while you get the second best from the hotel you originally desired. If a driver tells you your hotel of choice is closed, insist that he take you there, and if he turns out to be correct, you will pay the extra fare to his recommended place. Do not agree to be transported if the driver will not take you where you want to go.

One more scam to avoid is the recommendation to buy from someone the driver knows. The driver will promise a “too good to be true” deal on jewelry or tapestries and when your make your purchase the jewels will be worthless, or the carpet ordered will never reach your home. Only shop at reputable dealers recommended by your hotel or trustworthy guide. If a deal seems to be too good to be true, it probably is.

The Krystal Resort Cancun Scam Prevention Team wants you to be safe, and to get good value for all you do when you travel. A good taxi driver will make your life better, but a scammer can ruin your trip.
